Devlog 02 - UI Systems and Gas Station

Hello everybody, welcome to the second devlog of ICFTD Remake.

This month I have been working on the different game mechanics that are tightly coupled with the UI while trying to figure out how the gameplay will feel like. My target is to get away a bit from the original game flow where all the character options were mixed with conversation choices and other actions.

Also, since the game will be displayed mainly from a static camera I considered it´ll be more interesting to give the player the opportunity to interact with objects and characters of the scene.

Another thing I've paid attention to in this devlog is the time management aspect of the game. Improving the day/night cycle and implementing a resting system similar to the one you can find in modern Elder Scrolls games.

I've been also having a lot of fun creating the Gas Station of Lizard Breath. Which to be fair, is one of the most basic scenes of the original game. So I decided to spice it up a little, following all kinds of references of NorthAmerican gas stations of the 50s.

Trying to get things ready for the most important minigame of the whole game, I created an initial version of Greg Bradley's gun. Which I've placed on the table of Greg´s house for the player to take, before day one logic kicks in... having that sorted... let's see how we explain where he got grenades from.

This update has taken a bit longer than it should... but you know... Christmas. Not sure yet what the next update is going to be about (probably the 2D? map) but I would like to accompany every update with more artwork since there is still a lot of ground to cover.

Don't forget to watch the video, follow and subscribe to the newsletter to stay up to date with the development of the game... and please ignore all the content that is obviously placeholder like characters and unfinished scenery in the video.

Thanks for reading and until the next time!

Josué

  1. are u planning to recreate the exact time based events of each location from the original or add your own flair to it, would be great to see more subplots etc

    1. Glad you like it!, the whole plot might unfold slightly differently, since the player can interact a bit more with objects and scenery but the goal is to get a game that at least contains the original story.

The game will have new stuff in, in terms of collectables, documents to read and so on.

Once I have all that... (If I ever get all that in the game) I would love to start thinking in subplots :).

Feel free to let me know if you have any ideas for those side stories!
